Office² turns the iPhone or iPod Touch into a professional word processor, spreadsheet & presentation editor, allowing you to easily view, create and edit Microsoft Office compatible files.
Word processor features
Editing documents
Office² provides all of the features you would expect from a desktop word processor, including features such as character & paragraph formatting, spell checking, printing and saving document files in ,doc, .docx and .pdf format.
Office² provides comprehensive character formatting, including:
- Bold, italic and underline character formatting
- Font face and size options
- Text color and background color
Office² also provides advanced paragraph formatting, including:
- Left, center, right and distributed paragraph alignment
- Adjustable margins & paragraph indenting
- Bullets and numbering
- Tab stops
- Line spacing
- Multi-column formatting
Tables
Office² supports the use of tables, making it possible to edit existing tables and create new ones. Tables may be created by choosing from one of many table templates and Office² makes it easy to set cell background colors and adjust the width and height of rows and columns or even change the style of an existing table by applying an appropriate template.
Inline & floating pictures
Office² lets you insert pictures into your document and you may choose how the pictures interact with the surrounding text. For example, you can set the picture to move inline with the text or you can set the picture to be floating, which means that you can drag it anywhere on the page and text will flow around it.
Copying and pasting
Office² uses the standard iPhone copy and paste architecture. Text may be copied from one part of the document and pasted to another. Alternatively, text may be copied from another application, which supports copying and pasting, and then pasted into Office².
Tracked changes
If you need to collaborate with others on a document, you can use the tracked changes functionality within Office². With tracked changes turned on, any textual changes that you make will be shown as markup in the document. Changes may also be accepted or rejected on a change by change basis. Office²'s support for tracked changes is fully compatible with Microsoft Word.
Accessing documents in the cloud
Office² can connect to your favourite cloud server to let you edit documents, spreadsheets, presentations and text files directly in the cloud.
Office² can connect to Google Docs, MobileMe iDisk, Dropbox, Box.net and any WebDAV server.
In addition to editing files directly in the cloud you can also use Office² to copy files to and from your cloud server to the local device storage.
Spreadsheet features
Office² provides all the features you need to create a professional looking spreadsheet. It features a standard grid, which may be scrolled and zoomed. Text, numeric or date values or formulas may be entered into the selected cell through the formula bar at the top of the screen.
Cell Formatting
Cells may be formatted using the format pages, which let you specify the font style, borders, text and background colors, the size of cells and text alignment within the cells.
Cells may be set to a specific type, so that they may be displayed appropriately. By default, each cell is of type General. This means that the way the cell is displayed is automatically determined. If you wish to change the way certain cells are displayed you can do so using the Cell Type page.
When a type is selected, the user is presented with additional options for formatting the selected cells.
For example, if the Number type is selected, the user may also choose the number of decimal places to show, how to display negative numbers and whether or not to use the 1000 separator, when displaying larger numbers.
The following cell types are supported:
- General
- Number
- Currency
- Percentage
- Date
- Time
- Text
Multiple Worksheets
Office² provides support for multiple sheets within a workbook. When you press the worksheet button, worksheets are presented in a horizontally scrollable page, allowing you to quickly flick between all the worksheets in the workbook.
A worksheet may be selected simply by tapping on it. You can create new worksheets and delete or rename existing worksheets.
You can also create cross-sheet formulas and copy and paste between sheets.
Searching and Sorting
Office² provides the ability to search the worksheet for any phrase, number or other text, letting you easily scroll between search results. It is also possible to sort a range of cells by any row or column.
Integration with Google Docs and iDisk
Office² can access spreadsheet files stored in Google Docs, MobileMe iDisk and other WebDAV-based servers. By simply entering the user credentials for the relevant service, you can turn on the ability to access files in these remote folders.
Office² will let you copy or move spreadsheet files to and from Google Docs and iDisk folders and the iPhone local storage. Alternatively, you can directly open and edit spreadsheet files in these remote folders. Changes that you make may then be saved directly back to the remote spreadsheet file. Office² also enables you to create folders in either Google Docs or iDisk and move files between these folders.
Unlike the wi-fi import/export function, a wi-fi connection is not necessary. You can access spreadsheets in Google Docs and iDisk straight over the 3G cellular network. iPod Touch devices, however, will need a wi-fi connection, giving them access to the Internet.
Functions
Office² supports over 140 of the most popular functions used in other desktop spreadsheet applications.
Presentation features
Create new or edit existing PowerPoint format files with all the functionality you need to make stunning presentations.
Office² gives you the ability to add new slides based on the presentation's master slide, order your slides with drag and drop or duplicate existing slides.
Within a slide you can set the background color or image, choose from a variety of shapes, lines, images and text boxes and modify character and paragraph formatting of text within an object.
Once you have created a presentation, you can use Office² to actually present it. Either present it directly on your device to a small group of people or connect to an external monitor or overhead projector and present to a larger audience. You can even tap and hold in order to show a simulated laser pointer for drawing attention to particular areas of your slides.
Creating slide handouts is also a breeze. Just save the presentation as a PDF file and print out directly from your device.
